Blue Hen baseball team earns win over SJU

A hit by Kyle Davis lifted the Fightin’ Blue Hens to a 9-8 victory over St. Joseph’s.

8:40 a.m., March 22, 2007--The University of Delaware defeated St. Joseph's University 9-8 in dramatic fashion in a baseball game played Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. The game was tied in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs and the bases loaded when UD pinch hitter Kyle Davis laced a ball to left center field for the win.

The Fightin' Blue Hens fell behind early, giving up three runs in the first, but came back and entered the ninth inning with an 8-7 lead. However, St. Joseph's rallied to tie the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, UD loaded the bases with two out when Davis, a sophomore, stepped to the plate and delivered the game winning hit, scoring Adam Tsakonas.

UD left fielder Bryan Hagerich finished the day with two hits, including a home run, and three runs batted in. Second baseman Ryan Jablonski had two hits and two runs scored, as did Ryan Reed. Relief pitcher David Slovak (1-1) got the win.

With the win, the Hens improved to 3-10 on the season. They will return to action with a three-game weekend Colonial Athletic Association series against Hofstra University at Bob Hannah Stadium. The teams will meet at 3 p.m., Friday, March 23, and at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25.
