Buchholz powers Hens past Wilmington College
7:56 a.m., March 15, 2007--University of Delaware third baseman Alex Buchholz had five hits, including two home runs, drove in six runs and scored four to lead the Fightin' Blue Hens baseball team to a 15-6 victory over Wilmington College on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. With the victory, the Hens improved to 2-9. They will return to action with a three-game weekend series against Sacred Heart University at Bob Hannah Stadium. The teams will meet for a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday, March 17, then will play a single game at noon Sunday, March 18. In the game against Wilmington, UD struck first on a three-run home run by Buchholz in the first inning. Wilmington rallied with six runs in the third inning, but the Hens responded with a pair of five-run innings in the fifth and the sixth to pull ahead. Also for the Hens, center fielder Brandon Menchaca had four hits, including a double, and scored four runs. Second baseman Ryan Jablonski, left fielder Bryan Hagerich and shortshop Kyle Davis had two hits each and right fielder Danny Overcash drove in three runs. UD starting pitcher Brad Miller got the win to even his record at 1-1. |
