Delaware’s Courtney is second team All-CAA

UD junior forward Herb Courtney was named second team All-CAA.

8:17 a.m., March 2, 2007--University of Delaware junior forward Herb Courtney has been named second team All-Colonial Athletic Association, it was announced Thursday night at the conference banquet in Richmond, Va.

Also honored were UD freshman point guard Brian Johnson, who was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team, and junior Sam McMahon, who was named second team CAA All-Academic.

CAA Player of the Year Loren Stokes of Hofstra University was named first team All-CAA, alongside Antoine Agudio of Hofstra, Eric Maynor of Virginia Commonwealth University, Gary Neal of Towson University and Valdas Vasylius of Old Dominion University.

Courtney was joined on the second team by Frank Elegar of Drexel University, Will Thomas of George Mason University, B.A. Walker of Virginia Commonwealth and Drew Williamson of Old Dominion.

Courtney ranks second in the conference with 8.1 rebounds per game and fourth with 17.9 points per game. He leads the conference with 6.33 defensive rebounds per game.

Johnson was joined on the CAA All-Rookie team by Pierre Curtis of James Madison University, T.J. Gwynn of Virginia Commonwealth, CAA Rookie of the Year Matt Janning of Northeastern University and David Schneider of the College of William & Mary.

Johnson has played a UD single-season record 1,152 minutes. He ranks third in the CAA with 38.03 minutes played, fourth with 4.23 assists per game, ninth with a 1.55 assist-to-turnover ratio, and 12th with a 72.5 free throw percentage.

McMahon, a sport management major, ranks third on the team with 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 47 three-point baskets. He leads the conference with an 86.3 free throw percentage, the ninth best percentage in a single season in UD history.
