Delaware rowing team competes at Occoquan

9:17 a.m., Nov. 11, 2004--The University of Delaware rowing team had a strong showing in the final exhibition competition of the fall, placing in the top 10 in three events at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta held Nov. 6 in Fairfax, Va.

UD’s top finish was in the novice eights, where the team of Cami Off, Ashley Sparano, Karen Cardinal, Lauren Taylor, Salena Klass, Justine Strausser, Meghan Doletzky, Stephanie Hendrixson and Alyssa Hankins finished third with a time of 20:24.0. American University won the race in 19:49.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens’ varsity eights A team of Alison Harrington, Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl, Laura Beaufort, Lisa Karwoski, Maureen Gillen, Melanie Turner, Elizabeth Martin and Emily McElwain finished fifth with a time of 18:27.0. UD’s B team of Kenna Plangemann, Rachel Thomas, Nikki Jackowsky, Christina Stanley, Cathy Savarese, Jenn Boutin, Jess Kostick, Stephanie Miller and Nicky Bradley finished 13th in 20:04.

UD’s varsity fours team of Callie Tegan, Betsy Seeger, Lindsey Wood, Katie Broullire and Susan Carbine finished 10th with a time of 21:39. Penn State won the race in 20:09.

The Hens will open the spring championship season March 12 at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
