Delaware golfers fourth at Mershon Invitational

10:55 a.m., Oct. 12, 2004--The University of Delaware golf team enjoyed its best showing of the fall season by finishing in fourth place at the Don Mershon Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Sunday and Monday at the Indian Valley Country Club in Telford, Pa.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens were led by senior Dan Spiker and junior J.J. Oakley, who shot 150 to tie for third place in the individual standings.

Siena College won the team title with a 36-hole score of 610, seven strokes better than runners-up St. Francis University and Rider University. UD and Lehigh tied for fourth at 621. A total of 15 teams participated in the event.

Also for the Hens, Joe McLister finished 31st, Britt Murdoch 42nd and Mike Strasburg 61st.

UD will return to action Oct. 17-18 at the Goldey-Beacom College Invitational at Hartefeld Golf Club in Avondale, Pa.
