Meany runs to victory at Delaware Invitational

12:17 p.m., Sept. 19, 2005--University of Delaware junior P.J. Meany ran to victory in the Delaware Invitational cross country meet, held Saturday morning at White Clay Creek State Park near Newark.

The University of Pennsylvania won both the men’s and the women’s races, and UD finished second in both events.

Meany covered the eight-kilometer course in 26:10.40 to win by more than 31 seconds. The individual victory was the fourth of his UD career.

In addition to Meany, UD’s Brad Dodson finished fourth, Sam MacKenzie seventh, Kyle Schmid eighth, Tyler Mayforth 11th, Ryan Ward 12th, Kevin DuPrey 15th, Mike Hazeltine 17th, Matt Bryden 19th and Jeremy Lambert 20th.

Hofstra University’s Mary Sullivan won the women’s five-kilometer race with a course record 18:22.10, edging Penn’s Stacy Kim (18:30.7) and Claire Kim (18:33.6). UD sophomore Colleen O’Brien finished fourth in a time of 18:42.8.

In addition to O’Brien, UD freshman Julia Somers finished eighth, freshman Jessica Leitsch 11th and Sari Weissbard 16th.
