UD women’s soccer 10th in NSCAA regional poll

2:17 p.m., Oct. 20, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team has broken into the top 10 in the Mid-Atlantic region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.

The 7-5-2 Fightin’ Blue Hens are ranked No. 10, along with Lehigh University. Earlier, the Hens rose to No. 12 in the regional Soccer Buzz poll.

Penn State is atop the NSCAA regional poll, which features five Colonial Athletic Association teams. In addition to UD, Virginia Commonwealth University is No. 5, James Madison University is No. 6, Old Dominion University is No. 7 and the College of William & Mary is No. 9.

The Hens are led by senior Shelby Lawrence and freshman Caitlyn Germain, who are tied for the team lead with seven points apiece. Lawrence has three goals and one assist, and Germain has two goals and three assists. In addition, senior goalie Lindsey Shover has four shutouts and a goals-against average of 1.22.

UD will play two conference matches on the road this weekend, traveling to George Mason University for a game at 7 p.m., Friday, and to Towson University for a game at 1 p.m., Sunday.
