UD women’s soccer is ranked 14th in region

2:26 p.m., Oct. 12, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team is ranked No. 14 in the Mid-Atlantic region in the new Soccer Buzz magazine poll.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens, who are 6-4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, entered the regional rankings for the first time this season.

UD is one of five CAA teams in the regional top 15, with Old Dominion No. 5, James Madison No. 7, William & Mary No. 9 and Virginia Commonwealth No. 11. Unbeaten Penn State tops both the regional and the national polls.

UD will return to action this weekend with home games against two CAA teams that are included in the regional rankings. The Hens will face Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, and James Madison at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Virginia Commonwealth is 7-3-3 overall and 5-0 in the CAA and James Madison is 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

The Hens are led by senior Shelby Lawrence, who has three goals and one assist, freshman Caitlyn Germain, who has two goals and three assists, and senior Mary Beth Creed, who has one goal and a team-leading four assists.
