3:03 p.m., Oct. 3, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team opened weekend Colonial Athletic Association play with a split, defeating Northeastern University 2-1 on Friday night in Brookline, Mass., then falling 2-0 to Hostra University on Sunday afternoon at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are now 5-3-2 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. They will return to action with a pair of conference games on the road, facing Old Dominion University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, and the College of William & Mary at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9.

In the victory over Northeastern, UD got goals from sophomore Kendall Lytwynec and senior Shelby Lawrence, who found the net off a feed from Mary Beth Creed. UD goalkeeper Lindsey Shover had six saves.

Hofstra scored twice in the first 21 minutes in the victory over the Hens. Shover was injured in the first half and was replaced by Bonnie Mills, who had five saves.
