UD women’s lacrosse splits CAA contests

4:19 p.m., April 11, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team split its weekend games, coming from behind to defeat two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champion James Madison University 12-10 on Friday and then falling 11-8 to host George Mason University on Sunday.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens, who entered weekend action ranked 20th in NCAA Division I, are now 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the CAA.

UD will host a pair of conference games this weekend, facing Old Dominion University at 7 p.m., Friday, April 15, and the College of William and Mary at noon, Sunday, April 17. Both games will be played at Rullo Stadium.

In Friday’s game, James Madison, which entered the game ranked No. 19 nationally, jumped out to an early five-goal lead but the Hens scored five goals in the final seven minutes of the first half to trail just 7-6 at the break.

Midfielder Erin Edell scored four goals to lead the Hens. Midfielder Laura Miller had three goals and attack Katie Muth and midfielder Laura Libertini had two goals each. Attack Casey McCrudden had a goal and an assist. UD goalkeeper Patrice Hughes had 11 saves.

On Sunday, McCrudden, a freshman, had three goals and an assist, and Muth had three goals. Edell and Katie Hogan also scored for the Hens. Hughes had 13 saves.
