UD womens lacrosse defeats Rutgers 12-9 2:26 p.m., March 7, 2005--Senior midfielder Erin Edell notched her sixth career hat trick as the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team opened its season with a 12-9 victory at Rutgers University on Saturday afternoon. The game was the first for new Fightin Blue Hens Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca. Rutgers scored the first goal of the game before Edell tied things up. UD sophomore transfer Laura Miller then scored to put the Blue Hens up 2-1. Rutgers tied the game 2-2 before Hens Katie Hogan and Katie Muth scored goals just 10 seconds apart to give UD a 4-2 lead, one it would not relinquish. In addition to Edells three goals, Miller, Hogan and Jenny Diana scored two goals each. UD goalkeeper Patrice Hughes had eight saves.
