UD women’s lacrosse falls to Hofstra 11-9

9:40 a.m., April 4, 2005--Hofstra University overcame a five-goal deficit to defeat the University of Delaware 11-9 in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s lacrosse game played Sunday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

The game matched two nationally ranked teams, as Hofstra entered the game at No. 10 and the Fightin’ Blue Hens at No. 15.

UD broke out to a 6-1 lead early in the game before Hofstra rallied to score four goals before halftime, when it trailed 6-5. The teams traded goals early in the second half before Hofstra scored three straight to take control of the game.

For the Hens, Erin Edell, Becky Rausa and Casey McCrudden scored two goals each. Laura Miller had two assists, and goalkeeper Patrice Hughes had seven saves.

With the loss, the Hens fell to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the CAA.

UD will take to the road for its next two games, playing at 4 p.m., Friday, April 8, at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., and at noon, Sunday, April 10, at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
