9:13 a.m., March 23, 2005--In a battle of nationally ranked women’s lacrosse teams, the University of Delaware fell 12-11 to the University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

UD held an 8-7 lead at halftime and extended that to 9-7 early in the second half, but Penn fought back to tie the game and scored the game-winner with just 35 seconds left to play.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens entered the game ranked No. 20 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, and the Quakers entered the game ranked No. 14. With the loss, the Hens fell to 3-2.

UD will return to action in a Colonial Athletic Association contest against Towson University at 7 p.m., Friday, March 25, at Rullo Stadium. Towson, 5-0, is ranked No. 16 in the IWLCA poll.

In Tuesday’s loss, the Hens got two goals apiece from junior midfielder Laura Libertini, senior midfielder Erin Edell, sophomore midfielder Katie Muth, senior attack Becky Rausa and freshman attack Casey McCrudden, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week. Libertini also had a pair of assists.
