Villanova volleyball tops Blue Hens, 3-1

1:29 p.m., Oct. 26, 2005--Villanova University defeated the visiting University of Delaware 3-1 in a nonconference volleyball match played Tuesday evening at Nevin Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats won the first game 33-31 and dropped the second 27-30 before coming back to win the last two 30-20 and 30-23.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens were led by junior Heather Ranck, who had a game high 35 digs. Sophomore Colleen Walsh had 16 kills and 11 digs, freshman Kelly Gibson had 15 kills and 14 digs, and senior Niecy Taylor had nine blocks and nine kills.

With the loss, UD fell to 9-17 while Villanova, one of the top teams in the Big East Conference, improved to 19-5.

UD will return to action with a Colonial Athletic Association match against powerful Towson University at 7 p.m., Saturday, at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building. Towson is 21-6 overall and 9-4 in the CAA. The Hens are 5-8 in conference play.
