Georgia State ends UD volleyball streak

11:24 a.m., Oct. 17, 2005--Georgia State University defeated the University of Delaware volleyball team 3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association action on Sunday in Atlanta, putting an end to the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ four-match winning streak.

Georgia State dropped the Hens 30-24, 30-24 and 30-23. Junior Heather Ranck led the Hens with a game-high 20 digs, while freshman Kelly Gibson had nine kills and nine digs. Sophomore Allison Lutz had 11 digs and Colleen Walsh had eight kills and three service aces.

UD entered the game against Georgia State on a four-match winning streak, having defeated the host University of North Carolina Wilmington 3-0 on Friday. The Hens topped UNCW 30-19, 30-28 and 30-21.

Gibson had 20 kills and 11 digs in the victory, and Ranck had 23 digs and three service aces. Senior Niecy Taylor had 10 kills and a team-high five blocks, Walsh had nine kills, Megan McGrath had eight kills and four blocks and Lutz had 43 assists.

The Hens are now 9-14 overall and 5-6 in the CAA. They will return to action with a pair of conference home games this weekend, taking on Virginia Commonwealth University at 7 p.m., Friday, and the College of William & Mary at 7 p.m., Saturday, at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.
