Delaware volleyball drops two CAA matches

3:05 p.m., Oct. 3, 2005--The University of Delaware dropped two Colonial Athletic Association matches this weekend, falling 3-0 to Hofstra University on Friday and 3-2 to Northeastern University on Saturday at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are 5-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference. They will take to the road for weekend CAA matches at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, at James Madison University and at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at George Mason University.

Against Northeastern, UD’s Kelly Gibson had 16 kills and 26 digs. Heather Ranck had 20 digs and four service aces and Claire McCormack had 17 digs. Clar Farwell had 13 kills, Niecy Taylor had 12 kills and a game-high six blocks, Colleen Walsh had 11 kills and 12 digs, and Megan Welch had 14 digs and had a career-high six blocks. Megan McGrath had nine kills and six blocks.

Against Hofstra, Walsh, who leads the CAA with 3.79 kills per game, had a team-high 13 kills for the Hens. Taylor returned to the lineup after missing nine matches and had nine kills and three blocks. Ranck had a team-high nine digs and Farwell had eight kills.
