Hen volleyball finishes 1-2 in Yale Classic

10 a.m., Sept. 26, 2005--The University of Delaware volleyball team defeated Iona College 3-0 but fell 3-0 to both Yale University and Binghamton University in the Courtyard by Marriott Yale Classic, played Friday and Saturday in New Haven, Conn.

In the opening loss to Yale, UD sophomore Colleen Walsh and freshman Kelly Gibson had 13 kills each, and junior Heather Ranck had a game-high 16 digs. Freshman Clar Farwell, who was named to the All-Tournament team, had seven kills, and sophomore Megan Welch had eight digs.

Against Binghamton, Farwell had a career-high 12 kills, and sophomore Megan Welch had 13 digs.

In the victory over Iona, Gibson had 10 kills and 13 digs, while Walsh had 15 kills. Farwell had 11 kills and three blocks, while junior Kristine Gneiss had a career-high 10 blocks.

UD is now 5-11 overall and 2-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Fightin’ Blue Hens will play a pair of conference games this weekend on Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building. They will face Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Friday, and Northeastern University at 7 p.m., Saturday.
