Hens fall to Towson in CAA volleyball

9:03 a.m., Sept. 21, 2005--Towson University defeated the University of Delaware 3-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association volleyball match played Tuesday night at the Towson Center.

Although the Fightin’ Blue Hens were unable to win a game, all three were tight, with UD falling 30-28, 30-27 and 30-28.

UD freshman Kelly Gibson had 15 kills and 15 digs, while senior Megan McGrath had 10 kills. Heather Ranck and Claire McCormack had 10 digs each, and Colleen Walsh had eight kills and seven digs.

With the loss, the Hens fell to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in the CAA. Towson improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the CAA.

UD will return to action Friday and Saturday in the Courtyard by Marriott Yale Classic in New Haven, Conn. The Hens will face Yale at 7 p.m., Friday; Binghamton University at noon, Saturday; and Iona College at 5 p.m., Saturday.

Yale is 5-1 and is riding a four-match winning streak. The Bulldgos are led by junior outside hitter Shannon Farrell, who was named the Ivy League player of the week.

Binghamton, of the America East Conference, is 6-7 and Iona, of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, is 3-7.
