Delaware volleyball falls 3-2 to UMBC 9:45 a.m., Sept. 7, 2005--After jumping ahead early, the University of Delaware volleyball team succumbed to a University of Maryland Baltimore County rally and fell 3-2 on Tuesday night on Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building. The Fightin Blue Hens fell to 2-5 as they prepare to open the Colonial Athletic Association season with a pair of home matches this weekend. The Hens will face Georgia State University, which is new to the conference this season, at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, and the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10. Against UMBC, UD jumped out to a 2-0 lead by winning the first two games 30-24 and 30-26. The Retrievers recovered to win the next three 30-24, 30-27 and 15-9. Colleen Walsh led the Hens with 21 kills, while Niecy Taylor had 15 kills and five blocks. Megan Welch had 59 assists and Megan McGrath and Molly Rand combined for 21 kills.
