UD picked to finish 2nd

3:22 p.m., Aug. 3, 2005--The University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hen football team is picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 Football Conference’s South Division, according to preseason rankings announced today, Aug. 3, at the Atlantic 10 Media Day activities in Warwick, R.I.

Leading the preseason coaches' poll in the South division was last year's NCAA-I-AA champion James Madison University. Massachusetts and New Hampshire were tapped for first place in the North division.

Consensus All-American senior defensive tackle Tom Parks of UD was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference preseason team.

James Madison, which finished last year in a three-way 7-1 Atlantic 10 Conference tie with Delaware and William and Mary, led in the first-place vote getting, garnering 16 of a possible 30, followed by New Hampshire with 14 and Massachusetts with 12.

Delaware and William and Mary each received six votes, followed by Hofstra (four) and Villanova (two).

The Fightin’ Blue Hens kick off the 2005 season at Tubby Raymond Field in Delaware Stadium against Lehigh at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept 10.

Here is the predicted order of finish announced at the Atlantic 10 Media Day activities:
