UD’s Bennett seventh in ECAC pole vault

12:03 p.m., May 16, 2005--University of Delaware senior Casey Bennett finished seventh in the pole vault during the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) track and field championships, held last weekend at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium.

Bennett, who captured the Colonial Athletic Association championship three weeks ago, cleared 11 feet, 7-3/4 inches to finish in a tie for seventh place. In so doing, she earned All-East honors and will compete at the NCAA East Regionals to be held at Manhattan College.

Also competing for the UD women’s team was the 4x100-meter relay team of Brittany Wright, Rayna Horsey, Kristen Frustillo and Domonique Carter, which finished 21st overall with a time of 48.26.

The UD men competed in the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) championship meet, also held at Princeton. Jay Bradley finished 23rd in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.88 while Mike Yost, the CAA discus champion, finished 25th in the hammer throw with a toss of 171 feet, 9 inches, despite battling a back injury. Yost, who also will compete at the NCAA East Regionals in two weeks, fouled on all three attempts at the discus on Friday.

UD’s Chris Dixon was scheduled to compete in the men’s 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles Saturday but suffered a hamstring injury. Because Dixon was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team, the Fightin’ Blue Hens also did not compete in that event.
