Yost wins two events at Rider Invitational

10:51 a.m., April 18, 2005--University of Delaware senior Mike Yost won the discus and hammer with the best throws of his career during the Rider Invitational, held Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens finished third overall in the men’s and women’s team competitions.

Yost won the discus with a throw of 158 feet, 2 inches, and the hammer throw with a throw of 177 feet, 5 inches. Charlie Williams won the 400-meter dash in 50.00, and P.J. Meany won the 5000-meter run in 14:48.37. Other winners for the UD men were Chris Dixon, who captured the 400-meter hurdles in 54.23, and Matt Arbaugh, who won the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 6.25 inches.

Brad Dodson finished second in the 800 meter, Matt Guida third in the pole vault and Eric Lehrer third in the javelin. Both the 4x100 and the 4x400 relay teams finished third.

Casey Bennett led the UD women's team, capturing the pole vault competition with a leap of 10 feet, 11.75 inches. It was the 17th pole vault victory of her career.

Also for the Hens, Kristen Frustillo finished second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, Kaitlin McGowan finished second in the pole vault and Julie Hischmann finished second in the javelin.

Meghan Weaver finished third in the 1500 meter run, Reagan Hastings finished third in the pole vault, Lisa Weeks finished third in the discus, Rachel Young finished third in the hammer throw and the 4x400 relay team finished third.

The meet was the final tune-up for both UD teams as they prepare for the Colonial Athletic Association championships to be held April 22-23 on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
