Hens among leaders in CAA track and field

9:36 a.m., April 14, 2005--Thirty-two members of the University of Delaware track and field teams are ranked among the leaders in the latest top times list released by the Colonial Athletic Association in advance of the conference championships to be held April 22-23 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

The UD men’s team has 16 athletes ranked in the top 10, led by freshman shot putter Kyle Casella, whose throw of 14.64 meters ranks second among all CAA competitors.

The UD women’s team has 16 athletes ranked in the top 10, led by distance runner Colleen O'Brien and pole vaulter Casey Bennett. O’Brien is ranked second in the 1,500 meters, having run 4:35.96, and sixth in the 800 meters, and Bennett is ranked second in the pole vault, having cleared 12 feet.

Also for the UD men, Mike Yost is third in the discus, fifth in the hammer and seventh in the shot put, Adam Cianfichi is third in the javelin, Brad Dodson is fourth in the 1,500 meters and sixth in the 800 meters, Jay Bradley is fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, Chris Dixon is fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and 10th in the 400 meters and Charlie Williams is fifth in the 400 meters.

Phil Smiley is fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, Eric Lehrer is fifth in the javelin, Pat Henry is sixth in the 200 meters, Tony DiUlio is seventh in the discus, Tyler Mayforth is eighth in the 10,000 meters, Matt Guida is eighth in the pole vault, Andrew Lynch is eighth in the discus, Hao Guan is ninth in the hammer and Jay Marino is 10th in the javelin.

Also for the UD women, Kate Klim is third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Rayna Horsey is fifth in the 100 meters and ninth in the 200 meters, Amy Hischman is sixth in the javelin, Asha Quant is sixth in the long jump, Amy Miller is seventh in the pole vault, Colleen Reid is seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Brittany Wright is seventh in the 200 meters and 10th in the 400 meters, and Julianne Twomey is eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Rachel Young is eighth in the hammer, Reagan Hastings is eighth in the pole vault, Kristen Frustillo is ninth in the 400 meters, Kaitlin McGowan is ninth in the pole vault, Beth Moore is 10th in the pole vault and Lisa Weeks is 10th in the shot put.

As a final tune-up for the CAA championships, UD will compete in the Rider Invitational in Lawrenceville, N.J., on Saturday, April 16.
