UD men’s track wins Delaware Invitational

1:28 p.m., April 11, 2005--The host University of Delaware men's team won the Delaware Invitational while the Fightin’ Blue Hen women’s team finished third. The event was held Friday and Saturday at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

UD won the men's Division I title with 280.50 points, and was followed by Morgan State (158.50), Delaware State (97), Coppin State (58), Temple (41) and American (19). The State University of New York Cortland won the men's Division II/III meet with 147 points, ahead of Salisbury (102.33) and Moravian (100).

The U.S. Naval Academy won the women's Division I meet with 218.50 points, ahead of Morgan State (128), UD (125.50), Towson (121.50), Colgate (42.50), Delaware State (29.50), Temple (21.50), George Mason (12), Coppin State (8) and American (3). Muhlenberg took the women's Division II/III meet with 169 points, ahead of Moravian (155.50) and SUNY Cortland (112.50).

UD’s Mike Yost won the discus throw and the hammer throw, Brad Dodson won the 1500-meter run, P.J. Meany won the 5000-meter run, Jay Bradley won the 110-meter hurdles, Pete Kane won the 3000-meter steeplechase, Matt Guida won the pole vault and Adam Cianfichi won the javelin throw.

Second place finishes were turned in by Pat Henry in the 200-meter dash, Charlie Williams in the 400-meter dash, Dodson in the 800-meter run, Tyler Mayforth in the 5000-meter, Chris Dixon in the 400-meter hurdles, Matt O'Brian in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Matt Arbaugh in the pole vault, Tony DiUlio in the discus throw, Hao Guan in the hammer throw and Eric Lehrer in the javelin throw. The UD 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams also earned second place finishes.

Winners for the UD women’s team were Casey Bennett in the pole vault and Asha Quant in the long jump.

Rayna Horsey finished second in the 200-meter dash, Lisa Weeks was second in the discus throw and Rachel Young was second in the hammer throw.

Horsey finished third in the 100-meter dash, Kate Klim was third in the 5000-meter run, Colleen Reid was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Stephanie Cronk was third in the hammer throw, Julie Hischmann was third in the javelin throw and the UD 4x100-meter relay team finished third.

Both Delaware outdoor track teams will compete in the Rider Invitational on Saturday, April 16, at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J.
