3 players wont return to UD football team for 2005 10:23 a.m., April 1, 2005--University of Delaware head football coach K.C. Keeler has announced that three members of the Blue Hen football team will not return this fall. The players include senior wide receiver Justin Long, junior offensive lineman Scott Conley and red shirt freshman running back Gomez Cambridge. Long, a three-year starter from Pennsauken, N.J., has been dismissed from UD for one year after his appeal of a decision stemming from an on-campus incident earlier this semester was denied by the UD Student Judicial System this week. During the 2004 season, Long led the Hens with 68 receptions for 772 yards and six touchdowns. He also posted career totals of 164 receptions for 1,910 yards and 15 touchdowns. Conley, a three-year squad member from Marietta, Ga., who started for 10 games at offensive guard last season, has been ruled ineligible for competition for one year due to a violation of athletics policy. Besides appearing in 29 games over the last two seasons, Conley also served as the teams snapper on placements. He plans to remain with the team this spring as a student assistant coach. Cambridge, a running back from Riviera Beach, Fla., has decided not to return to school. Delaware, which will open spring practice on Monday, April 4, is coming off a 9-4 season that saw the Hens gain their second straight Atlantic 10 Conference title and advance to the NCAA 1-AA quarterfinals. The annual Blue-White game is slated for noon, Saturday, April 30, at Delaware Stadium. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
