Hen tennis teams sweep Villanova, 6-1 and 4-3

9:50 a.m., Sept. 26, 2005--The University of Delaware tennis teams swept host Villanova University on Sunday, with the men’s team winning 6-1 and the women’s team winning 4-3.

For the men’s team, UD senior Jesse Carl defeated Dimitri Chimerakis at No. 1 singles, and junior Adam Liebman defeated Brian Maher at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Jason Hanschmann won at No. 4 singles, freshman Nolan Greenberg at No. 5 and freshman Josh Levine at No. 6. UD senior Josh Ditman fell to Villanova’s Scott Farendorf at No. 2 singles.

Carl and Hanschmann won at No. 1 doubles, while Ditman and Levine won at No. 2. Greenberg and senior Philip Wayne also won at No. 5 doubles.

UD sophomore Susan Pollack defeated Candice Carlin at No. 1 singles, and freshman Amanda Campbell defeated Leigh Ann Reilly at No. 2. Junior Brittany Barsky was the other singles winner for the Fightin’ Blue Hens, topping Melissa Reed at No. 5.

Villanova’s Jackie Williamson defeated junior Liz Perlow at No. 3, Dani Phillis defeated junior Sari Shuster at No. 4 and Lindsey Lostretto defeated freshman Katie Iannelli at No. 6.

The UD team of Pollack and Campbell won at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore Alexa Dragonette and Barsky teamed to win at No. 2. Perlow and Shuster made it a doubles sweep for the Hens with a victory at No. 3.

The UD men’s team will return to action with a match at LaSalle University at 3:30 p.m., Thursday. Both teams will be in action at 1 p.m., Sunday, hosting Mount St. Mary’s College.
