Blue Hen tennis team opens its fall season

9:04 a.m., Sept. 13, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s tennis team opened the fall season at the Swarthmore Invitational last weekend with strong showings in both singles and doubles play. Seven of eight Fightin’ Blue Hens went undefeated in singles play during the tournament, and three of four UD doubles teams also went undefeated.

Freshman Amanda Campbell went 4-0, while sophomore Susan Pollack went 3-0 in Flight A singles action for the Hens, who competed against Swarthmore College and Johns Hopkins University at the invitational.

Juniors Liz Perlow and Sari Shuster both went 4-0 in Flight B singles, sophomore Brittany Barsky went 4-0 and sophomore Julie Schiller went 1-3 in Flight C singles, and freshmen Abbie Pyeritz and Katie Iannelli both went 4-0 in Flight D singles.

Pollack and Campbell teamed to go 4-0 in Flight A doubles, while Shuster and sophomore Alexa Dragonette went 3-1. Perlow and Barsky went 4-0 in Flight B doubles, and Schiller and Iannelli also won all four of their matches.

UD will return to action with a match at St. Joseph’s University at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20.
