Delaware mens tennis team defeats UMBC 6-1 8:44 a.m., March 8, 2005--John Tully, Jesse Carl, Robert Wirth and Jason Hanschman won matches to lead the University of Delaware men's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over host University of Maryland Baltimore County on Monday afternoon. Tully posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mike Keller at No. 1 singles and teamed with Robert Wirth for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over Keller and James Tyler. Tully has now won 53 singles matches in his career, just four short of the UD record of 57 set by Jon Zolin in 1971-75. Carl defeated Irvan Shamasdin 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Hanschman defeated Lief Hollowell 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Carl and Hanschman teamed for an 8-6 win over David Jackson and Shamasdin at No. 2 doubles. Also posting victories for the Fightin Blue Hens were Wirth at No. 4 singles, Jonathan Schwartz at No. 6 singles, and the No. 3 doubles team of Philip Wayne and Sammy Carl.
