UD swimming teams open season at GMU 2:45 p.m., Oct. 24, 2005--The University of Delaware swimming teams opened their 2005-06 season with a Colonial Athletic Association meet at George Mason University, with the women winning 166-134 and the men falling 184-110 on Saturday afternoon at the George Mason Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va. Lauren Southard led the UD women by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.37 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.69, while Alyson Oliver took the one-meter diving event with 243.22 points and the three-meter diving event with 239.40 points. Meredith Law captured the 1,000 freestyle in 10:30.08, Emily Watts won the 100 backstroke in 59.84, and Maryann Walker took the 100 freestyle in 54.09. UDs 400 freestyle relay team of Sarah Begley, Walker, Kendall Warren, and Ellen Heinz also won its event with a time of 3:35.94. Heinz finished second in both the 200 freestyle in 1:56.10 and the 500 freestyle in 5:11.19, while Begley finished second in the 50 freestyle in 25.06 and Watts second in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.60. Stephanie House finished second in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.80, Michelle Stephens finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.78, and the 200 medley relay team of Watts, Southard, House, and Begley finished second in in 1:50.86. For the mens team, Andrew Zinn won the 50 freestyle in 21.67 and Levan Beridze won the 100 freestyle in 48.23. The 400 freestyle relay team of Adam Blomberg, James Lavender, Zinn, and Beridze also won its event in 3:13.21. Matt Abbruzzese finished second in both the one-meter diving event with 198.22 points and the three-meter diving with 219.37 points. Brendan Spencer finished second in the 100 backstroke in 56.83 and Ryan Carolan second in the 200 butterfly in 2:03.40. Beridze finished second in the 50 freestyle in 21.76, Garrett Arant finished second in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.37, and Lavender finished second in the 100 butterfly in 54.19. The UD 200 medley relay team of Spencer, Mark Erdosy, Lavender and Zinn finished second in 1:40.22 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Craig Greenburg, John Ohlhaver, Mike Rasch, and Joe Virion finished second in 3:30.35.
