Hens name Coleman assistant swim coach

3:14 p.m., Oct. 3, 2005--Rory C. Coleman, a former All-American swimmer at Keene (N.H.) State University and head coach at Morningside College in Iowa the past two seasons, has been selected as the first full-time assistant swimming coach in University of Delaware history.

Coleman, 28, will assist UD Head Coach John Hayman with both the men’s and women’s teams and will serve as the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ primary recruiter. He joins a staff that also includes diving coach Peter Metrinko.

While at NCAA Division II Keene State, Coleman earned All-American and All-New England honors as a backstroke specialist and set six school records. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from Keene in 2000.

Coleman began his coaching career at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he served as a graduate assistant, and then moved to NAIA Morningside as head coach.

The UD swimming and diving teams will open the 2005-06 season on Saturday, Oct. 22, at George Mason University. Hayman, who has led Hen teams to six conference titles, will begin his 17th season as head coach.
