Towson defeats Hens in CAA doubleheader

1:40 p.m., May 2, 2005--Towson University swept a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader from the University of Delaware, 5-4 and 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Delaware Field.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 26-22 overall and 5-9 in the conference, where they remain in fifth place. The top four teams will advance to the CAA championship tournament, which will open May 12. The Hens will play a key two-game series at James Madison University, which is in fourth place with a record of 25-24 overall and 6-9 in the conference, next weekend.

Towson pitcher Jessica Fisher was the difference on Sunday, picking up a save in the first game and throwing a no-hitter in the second game.

UD pitcher Carolynn Sloat took the loss in the first game. The Hens got two hits each from second baseman Allison Borchers, designated hitter Natalie Savona and first baseman Barbara Traynor, who tripled to lead off the seventh inning but was stranded at third base. Also, center fielder Katie Lee and third baseman Michelle Plant hit back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning, with Lee scoring.

UD pitcher Lindsay Jones took the loss in the second game. She allowed just one run on five hits, but the Hens were unable to break through against Fisher.

The Hens will play a doubleheader at the University of Maryland beginning at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 4.
