Delaware softball team splits pair at UMBC 9:06 a.m., April 22, 2005--The University of Delaware softball team split a doubleheader at the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Thursday afternoon, falling 5-3 in the first game but coming back to win 7-5 in the second. UD senior pitcher Jenn Joseph earned the win in the second game, in which the Fightin Blue Hens scored six runs in the sixth inning. Key hits were a run-scoring single by Joseph, a double by freshman first baseman Barbara Traynor, a single by freshman designated hitter Melissa Morris and a home run by freshman center fielder Katie Lee. Traynor and Lee had two hits apiece, with Lee driving in three runs and scoring a pair. UD sophomore pitcher Carolynne Sloat took the loss in the opener. Freshman second baseman Allison Borchers had two hits and two runs scored, and Joseph had two hits, both doubles, and three runs batted in. The Hens are 22-20 on the season.
