Delaware softball team drops series to Hofstra

1:42 p.m., April 11, 2005--The University of Delaware softball team dropped a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series to defending conference champion Hofstra University this weekend in Newark.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens failed to score a run in the series, falling 1-0 and 6-0 on Saturday and 3-0 on Sunday. With the losses, the Hens fell to 16-17 overall and 3-6 in the CAA.

UD will play a nonconference doubleheader against Rider University beginning at 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Delaware Field.

The Hens will remain at home for a CAA weekend series against Drexel University, with a single game at noon, Saturday, April 16, and a doubleheader at noon, Sunday, April 17.

In Saturday’s opener, UD sophomore pitcher Carolynne Sloat worked all seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits. However, she took the loss as the Hens managed just three hits, by first baseman Jenn Joseph, center fielder Katie Lee and third baseman Michelle Plant.

Joseph was the losing pitcher in the second game, with Plant picking up the lone hit for the Hens.

On Sunday, Sloat took the loss, working five innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits. Joseph worked two scoreless innings. Joseph and Plant had the only hits for the Hens.
