Blue Hen softball team takes series over UNCW

9:47 a.m., April 4, 2005--The University of Delaware softball team took two out of three games in a weekend Colonial Athletic Association series at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens won 4-3 and fell 10-0 in a doubleheader played Saturday, and won 4-0 on Sunday.

UD is now 14-14 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Hens will return to action with a doubleheader at home against LaSalle University at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 5.

In Sunday’s victory, sophomore pitcher Carolynne Sloat threw a six-hit shutout. Getting two hits each were shortstop Kimberly Williams, catcher Natalie Savona, left fielder Lauren Gardner and right fielder Kelley Pastic, who drove home two runs.

UD pitcher Jenn Joseph earned the win in Saturday’s opener, scattering seven hits and striking out five batters. She and Savona had two hits each.

Sloat took the loss in the second game Saturday. The Hens managed just two hits, by second baseman Allison Borchers and center fielder Katie Lee.
