UD softball team goes 2-3 in Bash at Beach

9:35 a.m., March 21, 2005--The University of Delaware softball team went 2-3 in the Bash at the Beach Tournament hosted by Delaware State University in Georgetown.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens fell 2-0 to both the University of Albany (N.Y.) and Providence College on Friday, defeated Delaware State 5-0 and fell to Monmouth (N.J.) University on Saturday, and once again defeated Delaware State 4-3 on Sunday.

UD, which is 9-11 on the season, will return to action with a doubleheader at Lehigh University on Wednesday afternoon, March 23.

On Friday, UD pitchers Jenn Joseph and Carolynn Sloat took the losses. The Hens managed just one hit in each game, a single against Albany by junior Heather Wrenn and a single against Providence by freshman Allison Borchers.

On Saturday, Sloat pitched a shutout in the victory over Delaware State. Joseph delivered a key hit for the Hens, singling home both senior Kelley Pastic and Borchers in a four-run third inning. Sophomore Michelle Plant had two hits in three trips to the plate and one run batted in.

In Sunday’s victory over Delaware State, UD got home runs from freshmen Barbara Traynor and Natalie Savona. Sloat got the win.
