UD women’s soccer is ranked 10th in region

Shelby Lawrence
11:05 a.m., Oct. 27, 2005--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team is ranked No. 10 in the Mid-Atlantic region in the new Soccer Buzz magazine poll.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens, who are 8-5-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, moved up two spots from last week’s poll.

UD is one of five CAA teams in the regional top 15, with Virginia Commonwealth University No. 6, James Madison University No. 8, the College of William & Mary No. 9 and Old Dominion University one spots behind the Hens at No. 11.

Unbeaten Penn State (17-0) continues atop both the regional and the national polls.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will play two conference matches at home to end the regular season, taking on the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 7 p.m., Thursday, and Georgia State University at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. The Saturday game will be Senior Day.

The Hens are led by senior Shelby Lawrence and sophomore Alli D’Amico, who have scored three goals apiece, and by freshman Caitlyn Germain, who leads the team with eight points on two goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Lindsey Shover was named the CAA Player of the Week after making 18 saves in two games last week.
