Blue Hens still No. 6 in Sports Network poll

5:25 p.m., Sept. 19, 2005--The University of Delaware football team has retained its No. 6 ranking in the weekly Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA poll after a 42-21 victory over West Chester University on Saturday night on Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium.

There is a new No. 1, with Western Kentucky University claiming the top spot and former leader Southern Illinois University slipping to No. 3.

The University of New Hampshire, which like UD is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is ranked No. 2. Another Atlantic 10 team, defending national champion James Madison University, is ranked No. 7 after it shredded Delaware State University 65-7.

Rounding out the top 10 are the University of Montana at No. 4, Eastern Washington University at No. 5, North Dakota State University at No. 8, Furman University at No. 9 and the University of Northern Iowa at No. 10.

Other Atlantic 10 teams in the top 25 are the College of William & Mary at No. 16, Hofstra University at No. 17, the University of Massachusetts at No. 24 and the University of Rhode Island at No. 25. Also receiving votes was Villanova University.
