Blue Hen rowing team announces two recruits

9:38 a.m., June 9, 2005--Two Virginia recruits have been signed by the University of Delaware women's rowing team, according to Fightin’ Blue Hens Head Coach Laura Slice.

Joining the team this fall will be Elizabeth Carey from Vienna, Va., a graduate of James Madison High School, and Kaylin Carter from Virginia Beach, Va., a graduate of the Cape Henry Collegiate School.

Carey was a three-year member of the rowing team at James Madison High, where she also competed for the basketball and volleyball teams and was a member of the school orchestra. She plans to major in nursing at UD.

Carter was a four-year standout for the rowing team at Cape Henry, where she also competed four years for the basketball team and two years for the volleyball squad. She plans to major in fashion merchandising at UD.

"I am extremely excited to have Elizabeth and Kaylin joining our program next year," Slice said. "They are both two very talented rowers who will bring speed and strength to our novice squad. I am looking forward to their immediate contribution to the team and seeing their growth and development in the years to come."

The Hens competed in seven events during the 2005 spring season and finished second in the unofficial Colonial Athletic Association championships held April 23 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. UD captured the CAA team title in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
