UD novice eights crew in Dad Vail semifinals

12:02 p.m., May 16, 2005--The University of Delaware women's rowing team closed out the 2005 season on Saturday with the novice eights team finishing fifth in the semifinals at the historic Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

The team of Cami Off, Ashley Sparano, Stephanie Hendrixson, Kristen Cannatelli, Meghan Doletzky, Salena Klass, Justine Strausser, Lana Rivers and Lauren Taylor rowed to a time of 8:05.25 but did not advance to the finals. The novice eights was the only UD team to advance to Saturday's competition.

The University of Buffalo captured the semifinals heat with a time of 7:45.96 and was followed by St. Joseph's University (7:49.29), Villanova University (7:55.88), the U.S. Military Academy (7:56.25), UD and the University of Rochester (8:10.02).

The UD novice eights team advanced to the semifinals after finishing third in its Friday heat with a time of 8:14.70.

Only the top two teams in each of the three semifinal heats advanced to the finals.

In other action Friday, UD’s varsity eights team of Alison Harrington, Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl, Maureen Gillen, Melanie Turner, Laura Beaufort, Jess Kostick, Christina Stanley and Emily McElwain finished fourth in its heat and fourth in the second round.

UD’s varsity fours team of Jill Goldman, Maria Bellumori, Lindsey Wood, Stephanie Miller and Susan Carbine finished fourth, as did the second varsity eights team of Kenna Plangemann, Liz Martin, Nicky Bradley, Katie Broullire, Cathy Savarese, Jamie Schoenewald, Nikki Jackowsky and Jenn Boutin.

In the novice fours race, the UD team of Callie Tegan, Carly Gonzalez, Lindsay Decktor, Emily Canniff and Lily Chavarriaga finished fifth.
