UD novice eights boat wins Knecht petite final

10:47 a.m., April 18, 2005--The University of Delaware novice eights boat captured the petite final to highlight action for the women's rowing team at the weekend’s Knecht Cup competition, held on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.

In addition to the novice eights, UD’s second varsity eights team finished fourth in the petite finals, which are considered the consolation finals.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will return to action Saturday, April 23, when they compete in the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The event serves as the unofficial Colonial Athletic Association championship, and the Hens have captured the title each of the last two seasons.

The novice eights team, which advanced to the petite finals with a fourth-place finish in its heat Saturday, captured the title Sunday with a time of 7:20.9. Massachusetts finished second in 7:21.1 and was followed by Villanova, St. Joseph's, Kansas and Loyola. The UD team consisted of Cami Off, Ashley Sparano, Justine Strausser, Stephanie Hendrixson, Kristen Cannatelli, Meghan Doletzky, Salena Klass, Lauren Taylor and Lana Rivers.

In the second varsity eights race, UD’s team of Alison Harrington, Liz Martin, Nikki Jackowsky, Katie Broullire, Cathy Savarese, Jamie Schoenewald, Nicky Bradley, Stephanie Miller and Jenn Boutin finished fourth with a time of 7:23.4. Marist won the race in 7:13.3 and was followed by Buffalo, Rhode Island, UD, Massachusetts and Temple.
