Blue Hen rowing team returns from Florida

9:26 a.m., April 6, 2005--The University of Delaware women's rowing team competed against Barry University and the University of Miami on Saturday as part of its spring break trip to Florida.

Barry, the No. 15 ranked team in NCAA Division II, won the varsity eights race in a time of 6:49.5. UD’s A team of Kenna Plangemann, Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl, Maureen Gillen, Melanie Turner, Laura Beaufort, Jess Kostick, Betsy Seeger and Emily McElwain finished second in 7:04.8 and the B team of Alison Harrington, Liz Martin, Nikki Jackowsky, Christina Stanley, Cathy Savarese, Jamie Schoenewald, Nicky Bradley, Stephanie Miller and Jenn Boutin finished third in 7:19.2.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens also took part in two races against Miami, winning the novice eights race in 7:19.7 and finishing second behind the Hurricanes in the varsity fours race. UD’s novice eights team consisted of Cami Off, Justine Strausser, Kristen Cannatelli, Meghan Doletzky, Ashley Sparano, Salena Klass, Lauren Taylor, Stephanie Hendrixson and Carly Gonzalez. UD’s varsity fours team consisted of Jill Goldman, Maria Bellumori, Lynn Hamski, Katie Broullire and Lindsey Wood.

The Hens will return to action Saturday, April 9, when they take part in the Carolina Challenge at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
