Three Blue Hens named CAA Rookies of Week

9:44 a.m., April 26, 2005--It was a strong week for University of Delaware freshmen, with three being named Colonial Athletic Association Rookies of the Week. Midfielder Vincent Giordano was honored in men’s lacrosse, pitcher Mike McGuire in baseball and second baseman Allison Borchers in softball.

Giordano played a key role in the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ 7-6 victory over Drexel University on Saturday, scoring two goals to give UD a share of the CAA regular season championship and the top seed entering the conference tournament.

McGuire struck out nine batters and allowed just one earned run as UD defeated Old Dominion University in a conference game on Friday, and Borchers batted .417, had an on-base percentage of .500 and scored three runs in the Hens’ four games.
