Blue Hens’ Tom Parks is Buchanan candidate

UD’s Tom Parks is on the watch list for the 2005 Buck Buchanan Award.

3:04 p.m., Aug. 24, 2005--University of Delaware senior defensive lineman Tom Parks has been named to the 16-player watch list for the 2005 Buck Buchanan Award, it was announced Wednesday by the Sports Network.

The Buck Buchanan Award is presented annually to the best defensive player NCAA Division I-AA.

Also on the watch list are two other Atlantic 10 Conference players, defensive backs Shannon James of the University of Massachusetts and Tony LeZotte of James Madison University.

James was the 2004 Atlantic 10 defensive player of the year and LeZotte shared conference rookie of the year honors. Parks was the conference sack leader, with 10.

The award is named for Buck Buchanan, who played college football at Grambling State University before a stellar career with the professional Kansas City Chiefs.
