Gaphardt hurls no-hitter as UD takes two of three against Hofstra

11:50 a.m., March 30, 2005--Junior left-hander Brent Gaphardt tossed a no-hitter and fanned three sides of a seven-inning contest in an 11-0 victory as UD swept a conference-opening doubleheader against Hofstra on Saturday, March 26, at Bob Hanna Stadium.

Gephardt’s first career no-hitter was Delaware’s first since Matt Phillips shut down Hofstra on March 28, 1997. The Blue Hen’s last no-hitter was an 11-0 win against Hartford, thrown by Jarame Beaupre on March 18, 2004.

Gephardt, who improved to 1-3, struck out 13 batters and walked six.

Delaware also took the first game with a 4-2 victory.

Hofstra took the rubber game on Sunday, March 27, with a 9-6 victory over the Blue Hens at Robert Hannah Stadium.
