Matt Nagy second team All-Arena quarterback

6:53 p.m., May 27, 2005--Former University of Delaware football star Matt Nagy, who led the Georgia Force to a division championship, has been named second team All-Arena Football League.

Nagy stepped in this season after Georgia’s starting quarterback, Jim Kubiak, suffered a season ending knee injury in the fifth week of the season. Nagy finished the year with the AFL’s third highest passer rating at 119.0 and threw 260 completions in 388 attempts for 3,003 yards and 66 touchdowns.

With Nagy at the helm, Georgia went 11-5, the best record in the league, and won the AFL’s Southern Division championship.

The quarterback was one of four Georgia players to be honored by the AFL. Lineman Jermaine Smith was named first team All-AFL, and lineman Gillis Wilson and defensive specialist Kevin Gaines joined Nagy on the second team.

Georgia will host the Tampa Bay Storm in the opening round of the AFL playoffs in a game at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 29.

Earlier, another former Fightin’ Blue Hen, lineman Joe Minucci, was named to the AFL’s All-Rookie Team.
