Ditman, Levine advance in doubles competition

4:14 p.m., Oct. 17, 2005--The University of Delaware doubles team of Josh Ditman and Josh Levine advanced to the finals of the men’s flight B draw at the Hampton Roads (Va.) Collegiate Tennis Invitational held Friday through Sunday.

Ditman and Levine defeated Jon Bair and Brandon Lindsley of Longwood University in the quarterfinals and Jason Hill and John Waters of the U.S. Naval Academy in the semifinals. In the finals, they fell 8-5 to Nick Savage-Pollack and James Tyler of the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Also, UD’s Nolan Greenberg and Philip Wayne fell to Savage-Pollack and Tyler 6-3 in the B doubles quarterfinals.

In the A doubles draw, UD’s Jesse Carl and Jason Hanschmann fell 6-4 to Nicolas Frayssinoux and Juan Carlo Vazquez of American University in the round of 16. In C doubles, UD’s Zach Chafitz and Jonathan Schwartz reached the semifinals, where they fell 8-5 to Bert Baggio and Andy Clayton of Georgetown University.

In A singles, Ditman fell 6-2, 6-2 to Sebastien Ripoll of Virginia Commonwealth University in the round of 16. Carl fell 8-3 to Nate Nelms of Navy in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket and Adam Liebman fell to John Snead of James Madison in the consolation bracket round of 16.

In B singles, Hanschmann topped Rich Moran of Georgetown University 8-4 in the consolation bracket quarterfinals. Greenberg fell to Othmane Garma of Howard University 8-4 in the consolation bracket round of 16.

In C singles, Wayne reached the quarterfinals before falling to Josh Levitz of American University, 7-6, 6-3. Schwartz fell 8-4 to Roger Tomes of Longwood in the consolation quarterfinals.

In D singles, Levine fell to Kevin Walsh of Georgetown in the round of 16 and Chafitz reached the consolation quarterfinals, where he fell 8-4 to James Protnoy of Georgetown.
