Men’s soccer team drops two CAA matches

10:46 a.m., Oct. 10, 2005--The University of Delaware men’s soccer team dropped two weekend Colonial Athletic Association matches, losing 1-0 to No. 3-ranked Old Dominion University on Friday and 1-0 to the College of William & Mary on Sunday. Both games were played at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

In the rain-soaked loss to national power Old Dominion, UD allowed the only goal of the evening 24:31 into the match when Trevor Banks redirected a pass past freshman goalkeeper Chris Jones.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens nearly tied the game five minutes later when a header by Justin Romano rattled the crossbar. Jones finished the game with six saves.

William & Mary scored 4:57 into the match for the only goal in Sunday’s match, with Brock Jones scoring despite a valiant effort by UD goalkeeper Taylor Thames, who finished with five saves.

UD will take to the road for a pair of CAA matches this weekend. The Hens will play at Virginia Commonwealth University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, and at James Madison University at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16.

UD is 1-7-3 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference. The Hens have not scored in their last five games and have just three goals on the season.
