UD men’s soccer team blanks Naval Academy

Sobhan Tadjalli
10:44 a.m., Sept. 22, 2005--Scoring its first victory of the season, the University of Delaware men’s soccer team shut out the U.S. Naval Academy 1-0 on Wednesday night in Annapolis, Md.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens were led by sophomore midfielder Sobhan Tadjalli, who found the net in the second half for the winning goal.

Tadjalli, last year’s Colonial Athletic Association rookie of the year, took a pass from T.C. Young, forced Navy goalkeeper Aric McElheny out of the net and chipped the ball into the left corner for the goal.

UD freshman goalkeeper Taylor Thames had five saves.

With the victory, UD improved to 1-3-2 while Navy fell to 4-3.

The Hens will return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, when they face Rider University at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. They will open CAA action with a home game against new conference member Northeastern University at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30.
