Delaware drops match to George Washington

11:21 a.m., Sept. 12, 2005--The University of Delaware men’s soccer team lost a hard-fought match with George Washington University 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in its home opener at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

George Washington (2-0-1) scored late in the first half and withstood a rally by the Hens (0-2-1) before adding a late goal to seal the game.

The Colonials carried the play throughout much of the first half, outshooting the Hens, 11-2. UD fought back in the second half with several chances by Sobhan Tadjalli but was unable to score.

Chris Jones and Taylor Thames each played a half in goal for the Hens, making three saves apiece.

UD will return to action when the Hens host St. Mary’s College of California at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. The Gaels are 2-2 on the season with victories over Sacramento State and Oregon State universities.
