UD men’s soccer team falls to Villanova 1-0

9:35 a.m., Sept. 2, 2005--Villanova University freshman forward Joe Taylor scored with just 31 seconds left to lift the host Wildcats past the University of Delaware 1-0 in men’s soccer on Wednesday afternoon.

With the match winding down, Taylor broke in alone on UD freshman goalkeeper Chris Jones who got a piece of the ball but was unable to keep it from going into the net. Jones made two saves in his collegiate debut for the Fightin’ Blue Hens.

The Hens came within inches of taking the lead midway through the second half when sophomore forward Sobhan Tadjalli hit a free kick that eluded the Villanova goalkeeper but hit a post before being cleared away by defenders.

UD will return to action with a road match against Central Connecticut State University at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, in New Britain, Conn.
